Benefits of LED Lighting
Let's take a look at what else LED lighting gives us, besides the right light environment and modern appearance:
Economy
LED lamps consume 10 times less electricity with the same luminous flux than their older brothers - incandescent lamps, and 2-3 times less than fluorescent lamps.
Let's calculate the specific difference in numbers and compare the consumption of a 6W LED lamp and an equivalent 60W incandescent lamp. Suppose we have 5 lamps in a room that burn for 5 hours during the day. The cost of a kilowatt of electricity in Moscow is now 5.8 rubles.
Let's start with an incandescent lamp: 5 lamps multiplied by 60 watts, then multiplied by 5 hours. We get 1500 W / h or 1.5 kW / h. Now we multiply this figure by a tariff of 5.8 - 8.7 rubles are spent per day for the work of 5 incandescent bulbs. Not much, right? However, this is in one day. If we multiply this figure by 365 days, we get 3,175.5 rubles per year for a year. And that's just five 60-watt light bulbs that can light up one small room at best.
Now we count the LED lamp: 5 lamps multiplied by 6 W and multiplied by 5 hours, we get 150 W / h, or 0.15 kW / h. We multiply this by a tariff of 5.8 and by 365 days, we get 317.5 rubles a year.
Thus, the LED lamp consumes 10 times less electricity and saves you ten times the money.
LED lamps are much more expensive than ordinary incandescent bulbs and even LED bulbs, however, high-quality LED equipment lasts for many years, saving hundreds of thousands of rubles, paying off many times over and saving your time at the same time - install it once and forget it.
Health
The quality of lighting is so important, first of all, because light significantly affects our health and mood:
• The production of melatonin depends on light. Melatonin in our body is responsible for many important processes, for example, it slows down the aging process, affects the more efficient functioning of the immune system, the digestive tract, etc. Incorrect or poor-quality lighting leads to problems with the production of this important hormone.
• Eyes and vision. Lighting significantly affects our optic nerves, through which we receive about 90% of all information about the world around us. When the level of light is insufficient, the eyes become very tense, which leads to rapid fatigue of the eye muscles, headaches, general drowsiness, migraines.
• Mood. This fact has long been known - a good bright light of the right spectrum improves mood, increases efficiency. Scientists believe that this is because the ganglion cells responsible for the perception of light are closely connected with the areas of the brain in which our emotions originate.
What is important to consider when choosing light so that its effect on health is only positive?
1. Color temperature. In order not to disrupt the production of melatonin in the body, it is important to use warm light with a value of 2700K in the rooms where you sleep and relax.
2. Color rendering index. It should be more than 80, and preferably more than 90 - then the colors of the surrounding objects will be transmitted correctly, which is especially important for children whose brains are constantly growing, developing and remembering everything around.
3. Ripple factor. The pulsation of light, often not visible to the eye, is still read by sight and leads to rapid fatigue of the eyes and the whole body, decreased vision, poor brain activity, reduced attention, and other not very pleasant consequences. For lamps, the ripple coefficient should tend to 0.
Sustainability
LED lamps are not only saving on electricity bills, but also taking care of the environment.
That's why:
• No toxic substances are used in the production of LED lamps (such as mercury contained in halogen lamps).
• LED lamps belong to the Ⅳ waste hazard class (out of five) and do not require special disposal. The majority of a good light fixture is aluminum, which can be recycled and reused.
• High-quality LED lamps have a long service life - up to 25 years, which means that they do not have to be disposed of often like, say, light bulbs. Even if you bought a good light bulb that will last for a year, during the operation of one lamp you will have to throw away 25 light bulbs.
• Also, high-quality LED lamps practically do not heat up and help their owners to reduce their contribution to thermal pollution of the environment. Therefore, LED lighting is a concern not only for one's own comfort, but also for the environment and one's own contribution to its improvement.
