What is CRI? A practical guide to Color Rendering Index
CRI, aka Color Rendering Index, aka color rendering index, is an important parameter of LED fixtures that you should pay attention to when choosing them. CRI (or Ra) shows how natural the colors and shades of interior items look in the light of an LED lamp. CRI is measured on a scale from 1 to 100, where the standard - 100 - is taken to be sunlight, which does not distort colors.
Luminaires with a CRI below 80 are not suitable for living quarters and offices, because the colors of the illuminated objects in this case merge, look dark and gray, nondescript, completely different from what they really are.
What effect does this have?
First, health: light with a low CRI leads to overwork, headaches and reduced visual acuity. This is especially dangerous for children, whose brain is in the process of active development, so the distortion of real colors and shades of objects can lead to a violation of color perception.
Secondly, light with low CRI spoils the interior. You can carefully choose the colors of the walls, curtains and furniture, however, lit by a low-quality lamp, objects will look dull and unnatural.
So, what to do to choose the right light with high CRI? Look at the packaging. It should indicate that the CRI of the lamp is more than 80, even better - more than 90, then the colors of objects will look like in natural sunlight.
And do not forget to ask the seller for certificates of conformity, because you can write anything on the packaging. Certificate - confirmation that the packaging displays true information.
